The group STEP Q was formed on the 25th September 2002, in the eastern province, the head quarter town of kono district sierra Leone.
This group was formed by two gentle men Foday Kamara [STEP G] and Mohamed Koroma [Q D]. The name STEP Q was coined from the combination of Foday Kamara’s [STEP] and Mohamed Koroma’s [Q] which turns out to be STEP Q.

In 2004, they recorded their first single titled: TALK ABOUT at studio j music in Freetown. This song was first played on radio by DJ Willmo of Kiss 104 FM Bo.

In 2005, the group was linked to a record label [Forensic Records] by a Ghanian film editor named Lebeneh Indoze who was working for media solution film production Freetown Sierra Leone. With Forensic records, they recorded their first album in 2005 under the management of Mr Daniel Sesay [Dutch Green]. In the same year, the group first album but they decided to move away from the record label due to congestion of artist at that time.

Subsequently, in that same year, the group was linked to their present record label called Rock Our City Entertainment [R.O.C Records] under the management of Mr Aloysius Wai [DJ Rocky] by Dj Base of SLBS now SLBC Bo. In 2006, they released their second album titled: DIAMOND QUEEN under the same label [R.O.C Records]. This album became the most popular album in the country that year.
